Description

Decided a few days before my 30 day return period at MicroCenter to return my Ryzen 2700 for a Ryzen 3600 to get on the new 3000 series train. I really loved the aesthetic of the stock cooler that came with the 2700 and was really bummed by the downgrade in coolers. Not only for the looks, but because of the lack of vapor chamber, much louder fan, and the fin size. I knew it would be hotter but I was hitting high 80s regularly without and OC and decided to get somethin new. Upgraded to the bequiet! Dark Rock Pro 4. It somehow magically fits in this case!

I lost the RGB ring fans from the exhaust fan and the AMD cooler but I think it's equally as pleasing to look at. Just because it's quite stuffed in there. Kind of wish the glass was clear instead of tinted just so I can stare in there more.

Also adding those custom 3D Printed feet I designed yielded in 3-5 degrees cooler temps. You can test this on your A1 just by propping it up regardless of fan setup. If you want a pair, let me know. I amazed that you managed to fit that cooler in there, how are the temps given you have one fan as exhaust on the cpu cooler? Also where is the 3d printed keyboard? that sounds really epic. +1

Honestly, so am I. LOL.

The temps are ok. Low 40's at Idle and high 60's low 70's while gaming. That's with an all core 4.2ghz overclock at 1.35v. The exhaust fan puts out a ton of air and there is another 140mm fan inside that cooler in the middle.

Hey Dude. I actually went to a 3600x recently. However, they are basically the same. I've done TONS of testing and the best performance I managed to get was with Auto OC +200, PBO, and the ram overclocked to the fastest possible stable speed which was 3600 cl18 for me. On top of that I'm using the 1usmus power plan for windows and im boosting to 4.4ghz on 3 cores and just a hair under that on the rest of the cores. Way higher and obviously more stable than my previous overclocks ever got me.

Sorry for the dumb question here but in the past I used the Ryzen Master software to OC my old 1800x. Are you OCing in the BIOS or using Ryzen Master or combined?

I used the BIOS. But I have played around with Ryzen Master as well. Something about it overclocking AFTER boot had me feeling weird about it so I just went to the source.

I am also surprised. Is it really the 'hand in glove fit' the first glance gives, or was there any fitting issues? Also, in your opinion, could this case handle a warm high-end gpu like the 2080 ti?

It can, I have a 2080 Super in mine with the side and 2 lower fans blowing on it at 1k rpm. Underclocked it a little to 1905mhz @ .935v and it never goes above 65c. card is the EVGA XC 2 slot variant.

Fantastic job keeping everything clean in such a compact case! That cooler though... Damn that's TIGHT! Cable management is on par and the custom feet looks sick!

Thanks! At some point I'll go back in and tidy up back there. I think I can get the cables way cleaner but left them kind of just tucked away incase I need to change anything out.

Thank you. I have two InWin Loops setup as intakes, the side InWin Loop as an exhaust and the rear Silent Wing fan from the cooler as an exhaust as well.

The temps are great. I played a couple games for few hours last night and the cpu never went above 72 and the gpu was glued in the upper 60s.

The best airflow config I found so far is the side fan in the stock config, exhaust. Paired with two intake fans on the bottom and the riser feet (I have some for sale) that lift the case to give it more flow.

I too was choosing between those two cases but the included gold rated power supply made this a no brainer for me.

Thanks for the info I had doubts about temp before but now I'm lock getting this case lol, yeah the power supply is really a plus and i'll definitely use the wireless charger for my mouse.

I firmly believe miniItx and MicroAtx are all you need for gaming in 2019+. Love the look you went for, super clean and great looking IMO. Excellent work on the printed feet, nice for near free 3-5c!

The video card ramping up initially is the loudest part. The cpu and case fans are silent.

I got an open box with a missing io shield for $79 and they had a promo running for $30 off when you also buy a CPU. It was a steal. Same thing with ram. They also had a combo deal. The video card as well. Lol. That was the theme here. I couldn’t pass it up.

Basically, you save a ton of money if you do open box + combo deals at MC.

This is by far the coolest pc design i've ever seen for a mini itx build.... was it difficult fitting everything in there? I have this page bookmarked and am going to build come November due to the money i can save on the deals then. Also when I do end up building im going to use a AMD 5700xt GPU. Do you think that would run too hot for a build like this?

It wasn’t too too bad. Just take your time and plan it out. If you don’t rush, you’ll enjoy it. :)

If you get any 5700xt but the reference design, you should be good to go in terms of thermals. The card gets fresh air right from the bottom. And you can put two 120mm fans and my riser feet down there to help out the airflow quite a bit.

Yeah im revolving my build around asus aura so I have two coolermaster 120mm fans that i was planning on adding to the bottom along with the Asus tuff 5700xt and 16gb gskill ram for more lighting effects. But I will definitely be buying a set of your riser feet soon just so I don't bug you about them 3 months down the road haha! Thanks again for sharing this amazing build!!

P.S if you make cool builds like this a lot you should get into youtube. Im sure the computer rig community would enjoy seeing the assembly and performance of these builds on there!

How did you find the PSU to be? I am also planning on building this, but it seems to be that the stock PSU is loud and can cause hard shutdown

Never had an issue. I think most of the issues people mention are from the psu in the non plus case. The gold rated in this one is silent and has never caused any issues. It’s been great, honestly.

I found an open box at MicroCenter that didn't have an IO shield. It was marked down to $75 due to "missing parts". At the same time they had a $30 off motherboards deal when you bundle it with a CPU. When the guy was checking out my items at the register, the deal didnt come up. I asked him about it and he punched in the deal manually and bam. A $45 dollar motherboard. It was a gamble, I wasn't really sure in anyway it was going to work. I got lucky.

How much of a pain in the *** is that case? I'm probably gonna be doing a build for my wife (but pink, duh) and while nothing you can say will really stop me, I'm dumb and want a reason to not look forward to it. Or something. I kinda lost track of where my brain was going halfway through that.

That’s huge. Thank you so much. It’s been a solid machine and done everything I’ve thrown at it. I managed to get a 2070 founders and a 3600x for a tiny amount more than what I originally had in there and it’s holding its own. :)

I did not. On the Asus site says it will work with any board with bios version 2301 or newer. I got my board from MicroCenter and it worked. Another buddy of mine grabbed one a few weeks ago on Amazon and it also worked.

What the process of you getting the Dark Rock Pro 4 in? Did you need to take the PSU out? Or bend the anything?

Nope. I take off the cover with 4 bolts from the top of the cooler. Attach the rear facing fan on the reverse side of the cooler so the fan exhausting out of the back of the case. Then plug in the fans and install the cooler as normal. Slip in the middle fan and destroy your finger tips putting on the retaining clip. Curse, then quit trying to fully install the retaining clip as it works just fine with just parts of it on. Then install the top cover back on with the 4 bolts you took off and you are good to go.

Haha. I was just trying to be funny. It's easy, just a very tight fit. I've installed it 4 times now on 3 processors and I feel like I can do it blind folded now.

I fear the temps would not be adequate with a 9900KF and a 2080 Super in an Inwin A1, Plus that's a lot of a hassle to install a cooler. If I need to go to those lengths maybe that's just a sign that the CPU I'm choosing shouldn't go in that case. LOL

Yea. I mean if you pack that thing brim, you might run warm. But honestly I have a 2070 FE in there now with a 3600x and everything is overclocked quite a bit and Im between 65-68 on both in games. This case NEEDS foot risers. They are good for 3-5 degrees alone.

I didn’t have to. On the Asus site it tells you which bios version began the support and it was only the early models that did not. So, you’re likely good to go out of the box.

Thanks! The temps stick to the low 60s when gaming. The fans are on the cooler but they are so close to the back it’s basically the same. Haha.

I'm building a somewhat similar rig and my main question is did you have to update bios for the 3600 on the b-450 board you have as all the b-450 motherboards I see say they might need an update with an older chip

Mine closes with some room to spare. No issues there. :) If you look at the pics, you can tell the cooler is behind the metal that would be touching the glass with some room in-between.
