Description

Built this with my 9 year old son. Hadn't built anything since a class at the local library 20 years ago, so we had no idea what we were doing, but was relatively easy. List includes everything needed, not just the base PC, like: wifi card, full retail / non-OEM Windows license, monitor, keyboard/mouse/pad, and HDMI cable.

Started with the Entry Level AMD Gaming Build, and tried to include a few modest upgrades for longevity. The Ryzen 3 1300X seemed like a worthwhile stock speed upgrade over the 1200. Used a B350 motherboard, as it sounds like better options for future upgrades and overclocking. Chose an SSD for the OS and program files, and platter drive for mass storage. Went with a single memory stick, so can add a second later. Otherwise, just spent a few weeks tracking prices to find well-reviewed parts on sale or at a low price.

Found these Youtube videos helpful for the build: How to Build a PC! Step-by-step - good detailed video on an AMD build, How to Build a Gaming Computer - good series on the post-build next steps in the bios, Windows, etc.

Computer seems good. We haven't tried anything too intensive. We are replacing the case with NewEgg, as the USB 3.1 port does not seem to work.

Part Reviews

Case

Tried two of these and both had issues with the USB 3 port. After the second try, switched to a different case.

Sale of software and keys from that site often violates the ToS or are resold licenses purchased via fraudulent credit card. Recommending, suggesting, advising, encouraging, hinting, or in any way implying these keys as a solution or option is not allowed on this site.

What does that even mean?

He linked a site that sells grey market keys and we do not allow those here.

Are gray market keys illegal?

They... can be? Depends on the seller.

We haven't done anything taxing. Minecraft and a few simple Steam games. Handled those fine, of course. Good luck!

YouTube is great for benchmarks, but I can tell you now that for 1080p this thing will run virtually all games at medium settings 60FPS and a number of better optimised/console ports/less demamding games at very high or max settings at 60FPS.
